Update on Helaina

Hi everyone. I know I have been lacking over the last week or so and have not put an update on the blog about Helaina. She is still doing well in the NICU of UCI. She has been going up on her feeds and she is at 44cc right now. She is taking every third feed by nipple (bottle) and is doing well with her bottle. I actually got to feed her the last two bottle's she took. She has gained a lot of weight. She is about 5 pounds 4 ounces now; we call her our little heffer. She is looking very cute and making lots of noise now. I even got to give her a bath about a week ago. This was a lot of fun for me. The only set back she might have is her eyes. She has ROP, which is a disease where the blood vessels in the eyes that run from the retina to the front of her eyes aren't growing correctly. She has another eye exam this week to see if they started growing correctly or if they are getting worse. If they are getting worse than she might require a surgery to stop them from growing. This will help keep her retina entacted, but it will cause the parts of her eyes that don't have veins to not be able to see. We are hoping and praying this doesn't happen. We would appreciate all of the prayers from around the world so maybe her eyes could get better. I will keep everyone updated on this and post a little later on in the week.
